DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is a method of hair transplantation in which the grafts taken from the donor area are directly transplanted the recipient area without classical micro-incision and channel opening. In this method, a special equipment called Choi pen is used. The grafts extracted from the donor area are placed in this special pen and implanted in the recipient area. This pen, which is used in the DHI method, opens channels and is also used in graft implantation. In this way, the process for each sowing is completed as a single step instead of two steps. One of the most important features of this technique is that it requires no stitches, scars and incisions.

DHI hair transplantation steps are very similar to FUE hair transplantation except channel creation and graft implantation. Before starting the procedure, the doctor examines the patient, determines the number of grafts to be transplanted and designs the hairline. The DHI hair transplant procedure, which is performed under local anesthesia, starts with the loosening of the hair grafts with the help of a special device and extracting them one by one. The extracted grafts are carefully placed into the Choi pen one by one. The hair grafts placed in the Choi pen are implanted to the recipient area at 40-45 degree angles with the pushing feature of the pen. The one session of DHI hair transplant operation takes an average of 6-8 hours. The maximum number of grafts in a session with DHI can be approximately 2,500 grafts. The DHI hair transplant can be performed with or without shaving the head. It takes an average of one year to see the result of the hair transplant.
What are the advantages of DHI Hair Transplantation?
- Grafts can be implanted with more density (90 grafts/cm2). The density provides great coverage in the recipient area. Thus, it provides a much more natural appearance.
-
The risk of any scar formation and tissue damage on the head is very minimal.
-
Since there is no need to open channels as a separate operation step, recovery period is shorter.
-
Since the channels opened by the Choi pen are well compatible with the grafts, there is a low risk of bleeding.
-
Since the time the hair follicles kept outside is shortened, the graft death rate is low and the success rate is high.
-
Since the damage caused by the operation is minimal, the healing process is quick.
-
Faster recovery in the postoperative period, both in the donor area and in the recipient area.
-
Hair shaving is not necessary in the area to be transplanted.
